Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) Fleur de Lys

The Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck is a procedure performed on patients with an excess or hanging fold of skin in the upper and lower abdomen, both dimensions - vertically and horizontally. Regular tummy tuck will not be effective, and the effect will be unsatisfactory. Most often it is done in patients after intensive weight loss, whose abdominal skin is no longer able to shrink.

Each treatment is preceded by appropriate planning of skin cuts. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or in the spine (spinal anesthesia).

  • The procedure always starts with abdominal liposuction.
  • Then the surgeon makes an incision in the skin, but this is where he starts by cutting the skin in the middle part of the epigastrium and gradually removes the tissue towards the bottom of abdomen. Correctly performed procedure, following appropriate rules, gives a high degree of safety and a low number of complications.
  • After removing the excess skin and subcutaneous tissue, plastic sheaths of straight muscles are performed as in typical abdominoplasty.
  • The treatment can be enriched with additional pubic mound plasty, because very often this part of the body is deformed because of being obese and reducing body weight.
  • Then the skin and subcutaneous tissue are sewn together.
  • I use tissue glue before closing the skin and subcutaneous tissue and close the wound without leaving drains.
  • The navel is sewn in a new place in the resulting scar.

After the procedure, there is a long scar in the lower abdomen and a median scar from the epigastrium to the pubic symphysis. The patient may walk bent at the waist for the first few days. It depends on the tension on the displaced skin flap and the plasty of the rectus abdominal muscle sheaths.

After the surgery, a tightening abdominal belt is put on, which should be worn for 2 months. Strenuous physical exertion and heavy lifting for 3 months should be avoided. Return to work, if it does not require excessive lifting, is possible 2 weeks after the surgery. For 10 days, the patient takes low molecular weight heparins to prevent the most dangerous complication, which is deep vein thrombosis with pulmonary atrophy and death.

Consequences and possible complications after tummy tuck:

  1. Swelling and bruising are an indispensable consequence of the treatment.
  2. Asymmetry - the human body is not symmetrical, therefore achieving symmetry is practically impossible.
  3. Hematoma in the space under the sliding flap - requires surgical intervention and removal of the hematoma.
  4. Lymph cysts (seroma).
  5. Infection and abscess in the wound.
  6. Marginal or larger skin necrosis, sometimes between the skin and the navel.
  7. Aseptic necrosis of adipose tissue most common in patients who are overweight and / or still obese
  8. Skin irregularities.
  9. Pain, periodic, persistent without distortion.
  10. Allergies to drugs used.
  11. Venous thrombosis with pulmonary embolism and death.
  12. Unsatisfactory aesthetic effect.
  13. Deep vein thrombosis with pulmonary embolism and death.
